Whitby Eagles - Butler win Gold at Pickering!!! The Whitby team started out this tournament on a rough note losing to the rival Whitby Eagles Harris team. The game was very close for 4 innings before the Harris team got to Butler pitching and won the game over the next two innings. From that point on the team played almost flawless ball, winning the next six games to win the tounament on Sunday afternoon.
"We were missing three key players this weekend, but the girls turned it around after the first game" said coach Butler. "This really showed me the heart of this team. I'm extremely proiud of all of them and I can't wait for the season to unfold"... "this is among the best group of athletes that I have ever coached."
There were girls playing positions that they had never played before and by the tournament final we counted only six players going at 100 percent, but the girls overcame all the ends and pulled off a 4-3 win over a very scrappy Brampton team. Perhaps the biggest achievement of the weekend was beating the previously unbeaten Mississauga North Acton team. With only nine players in the lineup, the girls responded with great pitching, great defense and clutch hitting when we needed it to come out with a hard fought 1-0 victory.
Congratulations Girls!! Lets keep bringing on the golds!!!
March Break Butler Girls make a statement inCocoa Beach!!
The Whitby Eagles – Butler played 10 games over the spring break down in Florida from March 9 – March 16. The games were played against US Junior Colleges and the Eagles finished the week with 8 wins.
The two losses were heartbreakers. One was a 4-0 loss to Lansing Community College, that could have gone either way and the other was to Lackawanna CC in an international tie-breaker. Lansing is ranked 3rd in the nation among Junior colleges, and this game was not decide until the last inning.
Overall, the Eagles outscored their competition by a combined score of 99 to 17. Everyone contributed to the team both offensively and defensively and the coaching staff was very pleased with the results.
As a final highlight to the trip, the team was fortunate enough to witness the launch of the space shuttle from the cape. All girls were on hand for the spectacle. Scholarship Watch
